September 2010
Posted by Mark - 1 Sep, 2010The Thrasher Skate Rock Videos have been coming out all week. Here are the first three!
Another long break with nothing to say, apparently. This blog format isn't the same as the old Randumb Notes, which was a lot more free-form... but anyway, I've been busy traveling and most of my photos are going to Facebook. Gotta get more going here.
These are good things happening over the last few months...
.Altamont's SkateRock tour with Thrasher and The Skateboard Mag was maybe the best tour of my life. Thirty skaters, two bands, four vans, ten days of non-stop action. Words can't express. It was perfect. The Goat and Bad Shit bring the original spirit of Skate Rock to a 2010 level that would make JFA, The Big Boys, The Faction, Los Olvidados, Aggression, and all the other OG Skate Rock bands proud. Mofo, too!
.Maloof Money Cup in New York City: good skatepark, good contest, and the park was left for the community, which is awesome!
.Maloof Money Cup in Orange County: best finals I've ever seen. Nyjah was on fire, still didn't deserve to win based on all three sections though. Bummed that he cried about it. Fortunately, though...
.Nyjah won Street League stop number 1 in Phoenix. I couldn't make it but seems like it was fun. I don't understand why the consistency thing is the way it is... seems to go against Rob's original idea of being able to focus on progression if every trick counts and a miss means a zero.
.The éS Game of SKATE tour was a lot of fun, as usual, but I was on all of it this year so that was nice, except of course, for being away from Claudine.
.Stay Gold premieres were awesome. Reynolds part is perhaps my favorite part ever, or at least right up there with parts from Video Days, plus Lance's part in Extremely Sorry, Arto's part in Sorry, PJ Ladd's Horrible Wonderful Life, and all the other 100% classic parts. Add to that Leo's SOTY part (if things are right in the universe), Brandon Westgate's hella-fast shredding, Herman's easy dominance, plus Heath's retirement part and all the other killer-not-filler parts and you've got a great flick. Miner and the team killed it!
.The Chili Bowl Cook Off in San Francisco was truly amazing. The event is always fun, but this year the level of skateboarding going down at Portrero was shocking. Dudes I've never heard of blazing with such rad ease and style it made me feel completely out of it... who are these guys? These runs would've won pro contests a few short years ago. Great eye-opener, super-fun event.
I'll keep adding here and try to keep the momentum going!
