Dave Carnie Says It Best!
There have been a million questions recently about some mystery group of skateboarders who are trying to take over the skateboarding world, led by that guy Gary from Woodward Camp, and they want skateboarding in the Olympics, right? Right, of course they do.
So despite the obvious questions which should dispel all the rumors, like, "What would anyone really do if they were actually somehow able to take over the skateboarding world?" and "How is a group of skateboarders really going to influence skateboarding to be in the Olympics?," they persist -- the rumors, that is. And the skateboarding media has, for the most part, ignored the issue, because, after all, something huge like skateboarding in the Olympics is waaay less important than team-hopping skateboarders. Actually, importance is in the eye of the beholder, and this is way less pleasant than the fun, funny gossip stuff, so i get that.
But the real problem, and the primary reason that the Olympic threat hasn't been properly explained, at least as I've seen it, is that it's so damn convoluted. It's hard to understand, and there are a lot of intricacies that all lend themselves to unpleasantness and conspiracy.
So I was pleased to read this article from Dave Carnie over at KingShit.org which puts everything in some pretty good perspective and actually explains it well.
It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when. Sad? Maybe. True? Definitely.
